Come for the wedding. Stay for the sheep.

Outside of our wedding day, we are planning a couple of activities to welcome you to Wales. Naturally, these are completely optional so don't feel any pressure to attend!

Pre-wedding tipple

Join us the day before the wedding for a drink or two at the Three Salmons Hotel. We will be there from 7pm until late so feel free to come and go as you please. Rather save yourself for the next day? We get it.

Based in the heart of Usk, this pub serves a selection of cold beers, slightly warmer ales, and classic British "pub grub", if you wish to get a bite to eat. For those driving, the pub has a large car park beside the beer garden.

In a previous lifetime, Alex worked here behind the bar as he was waiting for his life to start in London.

7pm – Late

The Three Salmons Hotel, Usk

Fun fact

Simone and Alex celebrated New Years here in 2021. It was still “social distancing” but we were invited to share a Chinese takeaway with a random family. It felt weird, it was weird.

Hungover hiking up The Skirrid

"Nothing is better for a sore head than a hike in the welsh hills." – No one. We will aim to meet at the car park for 2pm after a well deserved lie in. The walk takes approximately 1.5 hours in total starting with a steep incline which eases as you reach the ridge to enjoy breath-taking views across the valley.

Depending on the weather, the paths can become quite muddy and slippery so we recommend sturdy footwear if possible.

If you wish to come hiking but are struggling with transport, please let us know and we will try to find you a seat in a car.

Skirrid Car Park (20 mins from Usk)

Fun fact

We spent the first day of 2024 climbing this hill with friends, Jack and Beth. If you're lacking motivation to work, it's a good morning activity to get you in the mood. Tried and tested in June 2022.

Post-hike pub at 'The Clytha'

Update: Kitchens close at early on a Sunday in Wales. As a result, only drinks will be available for after the hike. We recommend you have a hearty early lunch before taking on the mountain!

After the hike, we will head straight to The Clytha Arms, a classic pub set in the welsh countryside. The pub is dog-friendly and boasts a wide selection of local drinks. Food is also available to order.

The Clytha has served as the trusted lunch stop for multiple Tours de Usk over the years. While not considered in the Classics calendar, the TdU is a 9km cycling "race" and "triathlon" - including 6 pub pit stops and a river swim - which took place for 20 years between 2000–2020 and was organised by the Thurmans and friends.

Don't fancy the hike but still keen on the pub? Then come along! We will stay there for a couple of hours and we'd love to see you all before you go.

Fun fact

Local welsh cider and a shot of Chambord tastes wonderful. So nice in fact, we recommend drinking it as quick as possible.
